Day 519 Forgotten Treasures

Such a wonderful day at The House with The Garden! The warm wild wind, that reminded me of Spring came to swing on the trees, like acrobats in the circus. I almost walked to see my parents, as cycling was a personal disaster after a while. The open air had hardly any trees, the wind could have jumped on and instead it was pulling me back by my vest almost grabbing the bike out of my hands. And in my old room some long forgotten treasures I found, which made me smile.

Day 517 ‘Days of Wonder’

I remember a day of happiness from my childhood. Running home from school with great excitement and an overflowing desire wanting to tell mum about the praise I got for taking part in a poem reading competition. The sun was shining and the hot air chaperoned me through the streets to the place where mum worked. I remember shouting from a distance to her and waiving the cert being so proud for making her so proud of me, she must be proud I kept thinking when she hears what happened. And she pointed to someone, I did not see in my blinded joy of happiness: ‘You should still say hello whatever happened and be polite.’ And my joy in a split of a second has disappeared, it was not important any more, it was wrapped in a polite word and thrown into the deep see of feeling nothing, but nonsense. Many years passed, but the scene is still repeated when happiness follows me home and all I want is the joy to be shared, not halved.

Day 516 The Things that Amuse Us Most

Watched both seasons of Rome. Brilliantly made series but I don’t think I would like to spend hours by watching television in the near future. I overdid it.
It is snowing and I am sitting in flat on my own far away from The House with The Garden. But it somewhat feels right. Even more right than somewhat right.  And this is all that matters. Life can change very suddenly in amusing ways.

Day 515 Weekend in Ancient Rome

Watched already 9 episodes from Rome season 1. There are times of interests that sprung up from thoughts, words, that been whispered into our ears, feelings, that needed to be expressed and old ideas we were taught at school.
I remember Rome as we walked through it with my dear friend on a day trip from Naples during a crazy holiday of our early twenties. It was hot and the bottles of Peroni in our sweaty palms as the sun shone through our straw hats. Our dazed eyes were hidden behind dark sunglasses as we threw money into the Trevi Fountain. It has all passed and we drink coffee instead, many things have changed even our youth.

Day 514 &More Knitting Club with My ‘Flush-y’ Gilet

I laughed so much at the Knitting Club yesterday evening that my face is literally aching. Finally finished an oversized gilet that I started about 20 years ago. Ate the most delicious poppy seed cake, drank cups of rosehip, cloves and orange peel tea and chatted a lot. Margit decided to start making beany hats. She is so good, she can make one within 2 hours. I am not sure which old projects of mine to carry on with next, but have two options at least. I knitted a lot, when I was in love with baggy clothes so all my half-finished jumpers and vests are just so huge I can fit in them twice or even three times. I remember always being afraid of making them too small and ended up with sacks. We call my finally finished vest: ‘Eperke’, when I put it on, I look like a huge strawberry according to the Knitting Club girls :-) All I need as they say is a green hat. I remember knitting it when was reading Virginia Woolf’s Flush. Being my favourite writer I was in love with all her works and even knitted the name ‘Flush’ in the gilet with dark blue flowers, mushrooms, Christmas trees and all sorts. Of course, I never wanted to put it apart, once I realised it was too big. It took me ages to knit all the patterns. The funniest bit is, when the Knitting Club girls asked me what Flush meant, I explained about the book and added that in every day conversation we use it most often when we old-fashion-ly ‘powder our nose’ and flush the toilet :-) They burst into laugh and could not stop all evening pulling my leg about my ‘flush-y’ gilet design :-)

Day 513 Virtual Spring Cleaning

Finally, I managed to clear my inbox, more than 2000 unread e-mails, mostly flight and job offers and more than 5000 read e-mails, mostly about the children’s church rota during Mission Year and the leaks at Love Shack. Of course, other stuff that has lost its importance a long time ago and don’t even remember most of it.
That is a job done, I wanted to do for so long. I still have things like looking through the photos on my laptop and the documents. All the folders about Monsieur Thesis and Glocal Trinnovation.
Ouch, it can go down to -17C over the weekend, so might not be able to go out and take a trip to the hills over after all. Or we might just going to have a freezing adventure.
No sewing today, but done the cushion covers yesterday. Had a busy day at The House with The Garden though people visiting and drinking long awaited cups of teas and coffees. Yay!
